An unidentified victim was hit by a semi truck on Interstate 90 while he
attempted to push his vehicle out of the line of traffic after he ran
out of gas. The truck accident took place on the westbound side of the
interstate near the Cazenovia Creek overpass.
According to New York State Police, the driver of the pickup was hit by
a tractor trailer and suffered a fractured shoulder and hip bone. He was
taken to an area hospital. The right two lanes of westbound I-90 were
closed most of the night as police investigated the crash.
The New York State Police recommends that drivers to stay in their vehicles
if they become disabled and call for help. Most drivers are safer remaining
in the vehicle with the flashers on even if the vehicle is not completely
cleared from the roadway. If possible, however, the car should be pulled
off the road before calling for assistance. In most circumstances, drivers
should remain in the car on the side of the road unless they are in imminent danger.
A person who has been injured in an interstate accident may want to speak
with a personal injury attorney about collecting damages for his or her
physical and mental distress. Personal injury victims who are injured in
truck accidents may be entitled to recover compensation for medical bills such as hospital
and doctors' fees, medication needed for recovery, physical therapy
and other long-term treatment, and living expenses including wages lost
from missed work. Personal injury victims may also be able to collect
sums for their mental anguish or pain and suffering.
